The new furniture in the cafeteria looks good from far away but it's not very productive it's really hard to move the tables and couches around sometimes.
I thought the furniture at the cafe in Pratt was very functional.
There was also a piano in the corner which is a plus I think!
Flexibility and re-arrangement of space is key (see the D-school space at Standford: http://nyupoly.blogspot.com/2012/02/flexible-spaces-and-environments.html)
ReplyDeleteAlso there were tables at the back and students setting up for some events... I remember Aileen (faculty at Pratt) smiling and saying "I wonder what they are putting up there. It looks like there is an upcoming event... There's always something happening here." and that's a nice feeling I thought! As a student I'm sure but even as a faculty.
Yeah she was saying the hardest job on that campus is the custodian's because the students are always up to something which is soo cool because that would never be tolerated on our campus.
DeleteAt Poly there have been so many times when me and the people in the organization had to pick up trash and put the flooring down because the custodian staff wanted to go home and wanted the place clean before they get to work in the morning and if the students like myself told them we were tired they threatened to write us up and report to the administration so they can decide on a punishment for me/us.
Nice Post, Sana. Btw, don't you think that the back of the cafeteria should be open to holding mini-events like in Pratt? That would be cool.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Ashwin and we did use to host events by the back of the cafeteria at Poly when I was doing my bachelors but the way the tables are set up it was hard for the artists to reach out to the students and entertain them :(
