Rooftop Garden at Rutgers

Here is an idea that I think it would fit for NYU Poly's environment and give students and staffs more flexible place to relax. My friend once spoke with me about an open rooftop in her school (Rutgers university) that help her to relax in between classes. An open rooftop garden is not expensive and does not require to purchase more land to enjoy this space, it is definitely a great idea for city life.

  1. It would be cool to have space to farm on campus!

There is an urban farm going in at the Navy Yards: http://mcorreia.wordpress.com/2011/06/23/brooklyn-navy-yard-wins-grant-to-build-commercial-rooftop-farm/

Also, maybe there are plots available at the Dekalb Market: http://dekalbmarket.com/dekalb-farm/

    1. Billy, thanks for sharing the links... definitely worth exploring when we get into the concepting phase.
Thanks also for posting the dekalb market link. I was thinking of doing it but did not have a chance. Maybe I could post it on your behalf? al

  2. This is a great idea Pak! I love it... It will fit well also with engineering, urban systems and sustainability... and maybe we could grow vegetables for the salad bar in the cafeteria! :-)

  3. I think that this is a great idea. It is a great place for people to relax during stressful times and hang out while they have a half hour or hour break before their next class. Using the Dibner Building's rooftop for this is perfect because it's not too high and also able to give people a great view of the campus.

    1. I agree with you, Tyler, as well. I do know that there are many students don't know what to do in between class. This open rooftop will allow them to relax and enjoy our campus!

  6. I think the Dibner Building will be great for this rooftop garden. Since the student activities (HEOP, TRIO, and possibly the Office of International Students) are moving to the Dibner by next semester, it will be great for the students to enjoy their garden in the same building.

  8. The fourth floor of the Jacobs Building has an outdoor terrace with a few plants and I don't know if they still have a mobile cafe cart up there but that area can be easily converted into a garden

  10. The view from above is incredible. That’s definitely a good example to follow. The metal containers greatly contribute to the garden’s simple and orderly system design. It is not crowded and yet the ground was still utilized. It was very well-constructed. All I did was praise it, eh? :D Anyway, good luck!
